About the NSBB

The NSBB (North Suburban Big Band) is one of several ensemble groups of the NSSB (North Suburban Symphonic Band.) The purpose of the group is to play the original jazz compositions and arrangements from the legendary jazz composers/arrangers such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Oliver Nelson, Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, Sammy Nestico, Chuck Mangione, Woody Herman and many others. The group also provides an opportunity to display some of the many fine talented student musicians in the area.

Carl T. Iezzi, Leader
Mr. Iezzi is the Music Director of the North Suburban Symphonic Band (NSSB) and has had a long and varied career as both a music educator and performer. He is a graduate of the Duquesne University School of Music, earning degrees in Music Education, French horn performance and Music Theory. He taught for thirty years with the Pittsburgh Public Schools, the last eleven of which were as Director of Instrumental Music at the Rogers Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Mr. Iezzi has played with the Wheeling and Butler Symphonies, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet, Civic Light Opera, River City Brass Band, and spent twenty-six years with the Westmoreland Symphony as a French horn player and Associate Conductor. At present, Mr. Iezzi is a teacher of French horn at the Pittsburgh Centers for the Musically Talented and Artist-in-Residence at Hampton High School, directing the chamber music program.
